Education


The Institute has contributed significantly to education. Several undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD dissertations have been or are being carried out here as well as laboratory exercises on Climatology and Meteorology. The IERSD is also engaged in the organisation of International Conferences, Seminars, Workshops and Professional Meetings. Some of the most important:

  • International NATO Workshop on "Air Pollution Transport and Diffusion over Coastal Urban Areas", Athens, Greece, May 3-5, 1993.
  • Co-organisation of the 3rd Panhellenic Conference on Meteorology, Climatology and Atmospheric Physics, Athens, Greece, September 1996.
  • Co-organisation of the 4th Panhellenic Conference on Meteorology, Climatology and Atmospheric Physics, Athens, Greece, September 1998.
  • Organisation of the European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET) workshop, Santorini, Greece, 1988.
  • Organisation of the EIONET workshop, Prague, 1999.
  • Organisation of the workshop on the Impacts of Climate Change on Tourism, Crete, Greece, 2004.
  • Organisation of the conference of the International Forum of Experts in Solar Radiation, "Solar light advancements in the dawn of the 21st century", SOLARIS 2005, Athens, Greece, 2005.

The IERSD has also participated in educational seminars financed by the European Social Fund and NATO. Finally, the IERSD's staff, teaches in lectures and seminars organized by various bodies of the country's secondary education. More than 2.000 high school students are given guided tours of the IERSD's premises every school year.

In addition to the above, the IERSD participates in the Summer School on Astrophysics, organised by the institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics of NOA (Summer School WEB page).

The Institute also provides:

  • Guided tours for high school students on the first Friday of every month.
  • Guided tours for the public on the first Wednesday of every month.
  • Special Events and Happenings after pre-arrangement with the Institute (tel. +30 210 - 8103231 or 8109122).
